Hi guys, I just received my first EBSD result today. I am now using ATEX to do my average grain size calculation and realizing that ATEX offers 2 ways to calculate average grain size.
The first way is to use each grain’s area to find a circle that can closely resemble to the area of the grain. Then diameter of each circle is calculated, averaging all the diameters to give the average grain size.
The second way is to divide the whole scanning area by number of grains detected so that area per grain is found. A circle that is closely resembles to the value, which is area per grain, is drawn. The average grain size would be the diameter of this circle.
Which way would be more accurate? It seems that the first way is used in the ASTM.
