I believe the ability to utilize the generated energy by renewable sources would be more important than the renewable energy technology itself (whether it is solar, wind, wave...). Therefore, I think energy storage technology is the key in the field of renewable energy.

All types of renewable energy serve most of the mentioned aspects and I think the comparison between them depends on the availability of it in the region where to be used.

I believe among various renewable energies, biological fuels such as bioethanol can become more pervasive in the near future. Due to high energy demand and fossil fuel depletion, an alternative renewable source of energy is required to supply fuel demand. High emission of fossil fuel, carbon mono and dioxides may cause greenhouse gases and global warming. Use of biological green fuel may result in less gas emission and carbon dioxide generated from renewable sources should easily be entered into atmosphere for photosynthetic process.

Probably it will be wind turbines, solar power plants, heat pumps and solar collectors.

In the future, we are definitely going to use clean energy sources more but which one primarily is little hard to answer. Each clean energy sources have their advantages and disadvantages, also use of specific energy source depends on in which region it is being used. For example country like Norway can go with tidal and wind rather than solar, but country like India, South Africa etc has very good potential for solar energy.
If only we able to make Nuclear energy more safe and able to destroy nuclear waste more efficiently, then I guess one can say Nuclear Energy has good future. But all depends on future progress in the RnD fields.

The aspects mentioned of " economic, energy efficiency, reliability, energy share in electricity or heat production" upon forecasting the types of renewable energy technologies that will be pioneer in the future, can be actually/collectively valued as: solar energy for regions of high sunshine statistics , biomass-energy crops/wind for remote areas from the mainland energy grids, hydropower/wave/tidal and geothermal, for areas supporting the relevant power sources. Besides, the technical maturity, the economies-of-scale achievement, the scaling-up perspectives, the food vs fuel debate, the forecasts for more and more densely populated urban areas and megacities, the environmental constraints for harnessing carbon-based compounds/greenhouse gases emission, the opening of more/new labour opportunities (to attract the social acceptability and cohesion), as well as aesthetic impacts upon optical nuisance and pasture grazing by installation of wind farms and PV power stations/solar parks, are all determining the feasible applicability and the sustainable inclusion of renewable technologies at both developed and developing economies.
Due to the reduction of investment costs, currently, of the order of 0.7 €/W, in my opinion the solar photovoltaic (PV) energy will be the most developed energy in the future. The main drawback is availability. Therefore, the production of energy must be accompanied by an energy storage system. In addition to traditional systems (CAES, PSH), the use of hydrogen will increase in the future. Electricity can be converted into hydrogen by electrolysis. The hydrogen can be then stored and eventually re-electrified. The round trip efficiency today is as low as 30 to 40% but could increase if more efficient technologies are developed.
In my opinion, in energy mixes will dominate:
photovoltaics
solar collectors
heat pumps
These technologies will be connected to the energy accumulator. It shall apply especially difersification sources
Accumulation of energy from RES will be concentrated in a combination of energy storage and energy sharing.
I believe clean energy will dominate in the future but the exact type will depend on the location and scale of operation. However, I predict that solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbines will be in the forefront, especially in the tropics.
Solar power generation will be the large power generation system in future because of less maintenance. But it is intermittent. So hybrid power generation of solar ,wind with diesel generator may be a good system of distributed power generation for hill stations and other interior forest regions where gud connection is unecnomical .
I want to thank you all for your helpful answers, as we know these days there is more emphasis on solar and wind energy driven system, also the importance of energy storage coupled with renewable energy systems is not negligible, this would increase the reliability of the power generation systems,
but in my opinion the future of energy generation is unpredictable, i agree with fact that green energy production depends on the region, available sources and combination of available ones would lead us to better and more effective power generation system,
but renewable sources like ocean current,wave and tidal energy,biomass systems ,geothermal... have great potential to be used more in the future power generation systems,
its an open discussion and i am very eager to read more comments about the discussed or other green sources of energy not mentioned yet,

It is not easy to predict which energy will be the pioneer in the future. We are talking mainly about hybrid systems where the different energies are in collaboration rather than in competition. In my opinion, the solar will be the locomotive of the future enetgetic mix.
All these predictions will be only dreams as the man in particular the "rich" man does not accept to lose some of his comfort. A man to salute for his respect for the environment: the African and co ....

What are the evolving wind technologies for power transmission systems?
Wind and solar photovoltaic power plants are currently competitive. In the coming years, efficient and competitive storage technologies should be developed to increase the efficiency of solar and wind power plants. Storage systems will be the key in the future.....

Currently there is no technology that can compete with solar energy in terms of economy and efficiency. But in near future with the advancement of technology carbon dioxide capture and its conversion into biofuels using microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) may be a best renewable energy technology. Biomass power plants have a high investmet cost (aprox. 2.5 M€/MW). In addition, operating cost is higher than solar photovoltaic or wind power plants, fundamentally due to maintenance cost, depreciation and fuel cost. Operating cost in a biomass power plant is between 80 - 100 €/MWh. The main advantage for governments in EU is the creation of employment, much greater than other renewable technologies such as, wind or solar PV.

This power plants employ a large number of worker in operation phase. Currently, renewable energies (in the construction phase) employ many workers, but what will happen when all plants are installed (in operation phase)?

Energy from water is the oldest renewable energy source and, at the same time, the one most projected toward the future. On one hand, large hydropower plants have guaranteed the highest percentage of clean energy for many countries for almost a century, on the other, futuristic technologies to make use of the immense energy potential of the sea are the most advanced research expressions into new forms of energy.
it is a good discussion. In my opinion, there is no one answer to this question. Each country will use its own technology, based on its geography and climate. Meantime, governments will have the greatest role in the development of renewable energy and storage technologies. Solar energy is now cost effective. With a drop in the price of batteries and fuel cell, the future is bright.

Good conversion dear friends. In my point of view due to climate change solar is the best option but there is a limitation. Second renewable energy using sea sources especially seaweeds or any marine sources still has to be explored in pilot scale. Government subsidies are essential here. With all together we can replace the fosile fuels to a certain level. Rural energy generation using STP is an another aspect we can mitigate the loss of energy and storage problem. MFC awareness among researchers will create lot of advanced technologies in rural area.

I guess energy from renewable resources which are cheaper, easily available, present in large quantities and have no ethical or food-related issues. An important point is that obtaining energy from these resources MUST be economical and easy. "Lignocellulosic biomass" such as corn stover, rice straw, corn straw and many more are abundantly available on earth and by using an efficient pretreatment technology, followed by enzymatic hydrolysis and then fermentation, we can get biofuels such as bioethanol (yeast fermentation) and biobutanol (bacterial fermentation) and many other products.
I am studying methane as a 30 year bridge to totally clean energy production, during intermittency of solar or wind. Methane can immediately replace coal, in every application except steel production. Large scale electricity production without combustion costs about half as much as grid electricity, and is more reliable. This is being tried in Connecticut. Decomposition of methane into pure carbon, and hydrogen, then using a hydrogen fuel cell, has been demonstrated on a small scale. This, of course, would relieve the atmosphere of CO2 loading. We have to learn cleaner handling and use of methane, because, unused, it is 20 times as potent a Green House Gas [GHG] as CO2, and a byproduct of oil production and of dairy or beef production.
The problem is very important so it requires continuing scientific research in this area. In connection with the growing pollution of the natural environment, the increase in greenhouse gas emissions and the global warming process, which is increasing every year, it is necessary to implement the principles of sustainable ecological development as soon as possible in the formula of the green economy philosophy. One of the key aspects of implementing the principles of sustainable pro-ecological economic development is the development of renewable energy sources. However, many barriers to the development of renewable energy sources have been diagnosed. In addition to financial barriers, political and business barriers related to the lobbying of mining enterprises acquiring energy minerals and power plants producing energy in the formula of classic energy based on the combustion of hard coal, lignite, petroleum oil and other minerals are also important. In a situation of limited economic possibilities for the construction of other types of power plants based on renewable energy sources, then wind energy may be a good solution. For example, these are coastal areas in a temperate climate zone. In addition, the construction of large power plants or small home power plants generating electricity is often based on the simultaneous use of wind energy and solar energy, i.e. the use of solar panel technology in the construction of these power plants. The construction costs are also an important issue for the construction of these power plants. Due to technological progress and an increase in the scale of production of certain types of wind turbines, these costs are gradually decreasing, which also contributes to increasing the attractiveness of this type of energy as one of the main types of energy based on renewable energy sources.
In individual countries, the scale of pollution and degradation of the natural environment varies significantly, which is mainly related to the level of implementation of the principles of sustainable pro-ecological development in accordance with the green economy philosophy. In addition, technological development is gradually contributing to the creation of more and more perfect photovoltaic panels that can produce electricity not only in climatic zones characterized by high sunlight. Currently mounted on the roofs of houses and industrial buildings, production halls etc. modern photovoltaic panels can produce electricity even in a moderate climate zone in low sunlight, in cloudy weather. Therefore, installations and gyms equipped with photovoltaic panels can be built almost all over the world in order to develop pro-ecological energy based on renewable energy sources. In my opinion, wherever possible, solar energy should be developed as the most neutral for the natural environment.
In my view, distributed solar resources would become the first priority under the favor of an energy storage system.
