Which type of plastic fibres ( Polyproplene,Polystyrene,Polyethylene,Polycarbonate ) can act better in fresh and hardened properties of self compacting concrete?
I select polypropylene. You know that PP is both a plastic & a fiber. As a plastic, it is widely used in the manufacture of chairs. As a fiber, it is widely used in the manufacture of ropes. In self compacting concrete, plasticization is needed as well as a polymer which has fiber-forming properties. PP possesses both properties but one has to be careful in not using a big amount of the fiber (say >2 %) since this will have adverse effect.
during the experiment in Behaviour the Concrete Beam , we used the Polypropilene fibres, and in two phases, in fresh and hardening proces , but very carefully to not exceed more than 1.5 %
sir from strength point of view how about using polycarbonate or polyethylene wastes which is recycling in industries..how it will react with concrete compared to polypropyle waste ??
As far as I know, polycarbonate (most famous one is Lexan "made by condensation polymerization of bisphenol A & phosgene") is not one of the "good" fiber-forming polymers. Fiber-forming polymers are judged by physical properties & cost. I say yes, there are polyethylene fibers but most of what is available is LDPE which does not form good fibers. Again, I select polypropylene (the isotactic form) which is widely used for making ropes. Fibers made from it are lightweight, hydrophobic and highly crystalline. A bonus is in terms of having low cost & also wide availability.
There are quality fibers made from nylons & polyesters but I do not recommend them for the given application.
