Hi Ashif, no agency recommends specific strain for toxicity testing. Specifically your quereis regarding suitability for induction of organ toxicity/handling and collection of organs are very general..I think both strains will be almost equal, although I don't see any reference regarding this.
It is on the discretion of investigator to choose particular strain depending on the objectives of the experiment.
If you try to go through literature, you will find that Balb/c is used in a lot of immunological studies, vaccine development , cancer, neurological, infectious diseases study.
C57 is used in studies like obestiy, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases etc.
With my epxerience over the years, I can say that Balb/c is more commonly used..and you can use it for general toxicity testing, if there are no psecific studies involved (as mentioned above and in the references).
