In a field survey, I asked two questions.
1) How much land do you have in hectares?
2) What is your family’s economic status? Above Poverty Line (APL) or Below Poverty Line (BPL)?
I received 215 responses. I can roughly see an association between the land size and economic condition from the data, but what statistical test I can use to underpin this association, especially as one of the variables is numerical and other is categorical?
I have been thinking to convert the landholdings into categories, and then I can apply Correspondence Analysis (CA) on this data, as both the variables will be categorical. Could somebody suggest anything more suitable than CA? Many thanks.
Certainly, One-Way ANOVA or Independent t test. Chi square test is when both groups are categorical. Statisticians frown upon chopping numerical variables into groups.

2. There are only two categories in the categorical data, so it's binary.
3. Numerical data is not normally distributed, but asymmetrically distributed.

If numerical data is not normal then you need to compare median of numerical data against two groups using Mann Whiteny U test, and apply Chi-square / Fisher's exact test for categorical versus categorical data.
The normal distrubution assumption only applies when the sample size is less than 30. His sample size is 215, so he doesn’t need to run any non-parametric test as you suggested.
