In elastic seismic analysis, the seismic load can be characterised by its response spectrum, the horizontal elastic spectrum and the design spectrum and we can use the modal response spectrum to determine the response of the structure.

Now my problem is the use of horizontal elastic response spectrum, as i know that the design spectrum is used to determine earthquake stress and inter-storey drift, etc.
