I'm currently conducting a study about the characacteristics of the TMT in family firms and its impact on financial performance. I have access to BoardEx and Orbis, however, I don't know how to define who is part of TMT and who isn't.

Hi, though I do not have access to the databases, you mentioned and the contents in those data bases, I am answering your question on the basis of a study I conducted on Executive Compensation in the Indian context recently .
TMT in my study consisted of CEO , Managing Director, in some companies Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer (COO) , in case of software companies, the designations might slightly differ as CTO., Chief Finance Officer (CFO), Company Secretary, if the company has multiple business divisions then the Divisional Heads, Chief R & D Officer, and Executive Directors. In the Indian context, the Annual Reports mention the Key Managerial Personnel- KMP (in stead of TMT). Under KMP, those whose annual compensation is more than a particular threshold, are listed and their gross annual income (including fixed, variable salaries, incentives, company's contribution to retirement fund, gratuity, perks and allowances) is reported.
One suggestion, have a look at Annual Report of any listed company (in the database), you may get a list of TMT.
