Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) is a degenerative joint disease with potential disability and lower QoL.
There are many options for treatment and rehabilitation. However, there is no curative treatment for KOA so far. Multipotent stem cells therapy is growing faster with promising efficacy. Stem cells can be obtained from various sources such as the placenta, bone marrow, adipose tissue, mobilized peripheral blood, and synovial membrane. Is there any head-to-head trial among the sources of the stem cells therapy for KOA.
I conducted experiment in nude rats. Only Mesenchymal stem cells injection did not work in repairing knee defects, rather caused adverse effects. But when I created cartilages than implanted in defects, they did work. Pl find enclosed 2 reprints, may help you. I used MSCs isolated from human bone marrow and cartilages created and implanted in nude rat knee defects. If you have human bone marrow access, that is good source of MSCs.

You have five sources of stem cells that have the potential to form articular cartilage: ESCs, totipotent stem cells, iPSCs, pluripotent stem cells, and mesodermal stem cells.
BTW, MSCs will only form hyaline cartilage - which is structurally and biochemically not the same as articular cartilage.
