I would like to precipitate DNA from a bacterial lysate using polyethyleneimine (polymin-P). Reading online, I see a range of molecular weights are used. If anyone uses this method successfully, what do you use? Is it the branched polymer, and from which company do you buy it from?

For this purpose we wanted to buy the branched polymer from Serva or Sigma but were told that there are patent issues and the only company allowed to sell this product is Polyplus transfection (German distributor VWR).

Thanks for the response. So let me get this straight, you do use the branched PEI with a molecular weight range of 50-100 Kda ? Do you pH or dialyse the polymer before use ? I have found a source from Alfa Aesar here in Belgium (via VWR) which I will likely give a try.
The Polyplus patent has expired (17th July 2015), and would not have covered this use anyway.
However, Sigma-Aldrich sells b-PEI in Belgium, or did two years ago when I bought it..
