I am working on modelling of FDM process. For printing high strength parts changing the raster angle by 90 degrees in each adjacent layers is desirable. However I would like to know which raster angle combination would give higher strength in tension.
The tensile strength in 3D printing by the FDM method depends on the filling method and strategy. There are many articles in this system on this occasion.

In addition, essential parameters during printing are the extrusion temperature, the type of polymer thread and additives in it, the printing speed, the thickness of the layers and others.
It depends on the material and some of the other print settings. For common ABS and PLA, it is usually 0/90. It could definitely be a different angle than 45/90 as well.

It depends on the force direction , if the force direction is parallel to the axial of chains ( printed small wires) , you can get the max. tensile strength.
Hi there,
it depends on the material you are using and on the direction of the mechanical efforts in the part. In FDM its best when the efforts are applied in the deposited filaments instead of in the bonding lines (weak zones in the parts). Other printing paramenters will also affect the mechanical properties quality, like infill density, layer thickness, road width, build orientation, printing temperatures, among others.
I like to use unidirectional strategy for tensile efforts, that is, all deposited filaments aligned to the tensile load direction.

For ABS, -45/45 for optimized tensile strength, 0/90 for optimized flexural strength. When it comes to 3D printing, it is recommended to confirm these values for your samples (reproducibility of reported results may be hampered by several factors).
