I would like to draw pentakis dodecahedron and icosahedron to use it in one of my figures for the paper (I need high-resolution drawings). However, I do not have special commercial programs for that (I have CorelDraw X3 and Photoshop CS only). Can anyone advice on how to do that manually, or is there any free software I can use?
You can also use MeshLab. Make text-file with extension 'off'.
Put in the first line:
OFF
in the second the count of vertices, count of faces and zero, and all divided by whitespace:
cntV cntF 0
Continue with coordinates of vertices:
x1 y1 z1
x2 y2 z2
...
xn yn zn
Continue with faces starting with the count of edges per that particular face in the first column and the indices of vertices; e.g. for icosahedron:
3 V1 V2 V3
3 V4 V5 V1
....
or for dodecahedron like this:
5 V1 V2 V3 V4 V5
5 V6 V7 V8 V1 V2
...
You cen directly open off-file with MeshLab.
There is snapshot tool, you can even generate the series of snaphots.
To make the edges 'thicker' i guess you need to generate additional edges very close to each other. I don't know what do you mean by customization, but there is some information on Meshlab in internet. You'll get a better insight by personally exploring it.
