I have an EEG system from ANT. It's active shielding works well with my metal chin rest. I had a problem with their standard cap (ground on the cheek). I order my caps with the ground within the cap itself. I am not saying the system is perfect or the best, but I haven't had a single issue with noise from the headrest. Initially I didn't put enough gel on the externals (Nz or Veog) and the headrest acted like a big antenna - but that was my fault . They have a new portable EEG system... How do you like your ASL?

Do you need it to control for artifacts, or to analyze the two data streams in parallel?

I'm looking into it myself, and have found that several of the mobile eye trackers now come paired with commercial EEG (e.g. emotiv), which must mean they are a good fit.

I'm using EEGOSPORT from ANT http://www.ant-neuro.com/ which is very reliable and their cup are very good.

ANT is popular for the sports sciences. Alternatively, one could combine the wireless amplifier from Emotiv and use high quality electrodes and electrode cap from easycap.

If you are interested in performing eye-movements simultaneously with EEG, the artifacts caused by eye-movements are non-trivial. A very good treatment of the issues are covered by the following two papers.

Any EEG record obtained from any portable or stationary EEG system will run into problems of muscle artifacts when the head rests on a chin rest. The more interested you'll be in EEG activity of parietal and occipital brain areas the more important artifacts due to the chin rest well be. Our experiences teaches us that all people hang into the chin rest that cause huge activations of the large neck muscles. The antenna problem mentioned by Raquel can be avoided by using a wooden chin rest. The emotiv system will restrict you to only a few electrodes sides and the impedance problems might corrupt your data significantly. For high quality recordings data recording with a very good system that has sufficient common mode rejection and excellent impedance plus avoidance of a chin rest would be the best recommendation.

In our lab, we use two active electrodes systems provided by BioSemi (http://www.biosemi.com). We have good experience with the support service of the company. Although we had not need to use the systems outside our lab, our systems are in principle portable. We plan to combine our EEG system with an EyeLink 1000 eye-tracker in our lab.

If you are using an ASL eye-tracker (which is stationary, I believe) why do you want a portable EEG system? They are sometimes more expensive and usually have less options than non-portable EEG systems, so I was wondering what your constraints really are.

Many of the people above suggested stationary EEG systems, which are all good. I have good experiences with Brain Product's actiChamp, which has open source recording software (so you can adapt it). I've thought about using wearable eye-tracking combined with wearable EEG, but I don't think they both fit well on the participants' heads together - at least so far.

The Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) software framework of Christian Kothe provides a means to synchronize concurrent recordings from any number of devices - drivers are already available for several EEG and eye tracking systems and are often not difficult to extend to new devices. Dear Marius 't Hart Sir- Yes, the eye tracker we are using is stationary. Our plan is to take patients as participants in different experiment. So we need portable EEG system to work in different hospitals. Another advantage is that even if we want to record eye movement and EEG both in patients participants later, we will require only to buy portable eye tracker not both.

If your participants are hospital based and not fully ambulatory, you could probably use almost any EEG system. Our lab uses a Nuamps (40 channels) and I've previously used a Synamps (64 channels) both of which are fairly small/light-weight and can operate via a laptop - have successfully used the Nuamps system this way several times in the past. We also use the Emotiv system for its wireless capabilities but marking stimulus events with ms timing can be a little challenging. The other option that might be worth considering is the B-Alert system...I've not used it yet (just played during a demonstration) but as a wireless system it seems pretty impressive. - currently uses wet electrodes (like most systems) but rumour has it that a silicone "dry" electrode will be available in the near future.

Dear Indrajeet Kumar, in Europe a great deal of multichannel recording apparatuses is actually available (at your request, I can send you some more details --> [email protected]) for EEG recordings plus several other channels (e.g., for contemporaneous EMG, or ECG, etc., applications expecially studied for sleeep monitoring--> polysomnography). All of them are widely portable.
