I cannot think of one single paper that provides enough information to teach you how to do a systematic review/meta-analysis. The book, "introduction to Meta-Analysis," is a good book for the novice to learn how to do a meta-analysis but it does not even mention the systematic review, which is the most important part of doing a systematic review/meta-analysis. If your systematic review is poorly done, your meta-analysis of those data is worthless. My preferred text for learning how to do a systematic review is "J.P.T. Higgins and S. Green (eds). Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions Version 5.1.0 [updated March 2011]. The Cochrane Collaboration, 2011. Available at http://handbook.cochrane.org/." Cochrane sets the gold standard for how to do a systematic review.
