HPMC with avicel to increase the hardnesss

Dear A. Waheed, actually these three are the most commonly used co-excepients along with other polymers in Controlled Release formulations to increase the dissolution rate. My concern is that which one is the best and why?

With my knowledge starch is used as filler only as it does not have any property rqrd in CR formulation

CMC & HPMC these are basically used based on their swelling property for holding the API & release it as per dissolution profile either by Erosion or Diffusion

As compared to CMC, HPMC is better based on viscosity range of Specific grade
