Therefore, I think that it is difficult to make such a comparison.

I agree. The impact of academic book on university students is more than the impact of a journal article. However, a journal article can be more important for univeristy colleagues.

Hi Prof Chua, think it depends on the university students' where they are & what they want to achieve.  E.g. if those are undergraduate students or students just embarking on research, they might need to refer more on the academic books. If they have started in research & are working on their post-graduate degrees by research or working together with peers in a particular research, they might refer more on journal articles for their literature review etc.  However, the latter group might also need to refer to the academic books for certain citation as well.

It depends on students education level, for undergraduate students academic books are more influencing than other sources, on the other hand, for postgraduate students papers, journals articles, and previous thesis are more effective, this is my simple opinion.

It depends on the academic institution and their approach. If independent & original thinking is encouraged and knowledge of the current work in the subject area is given value in evaluation, Journals become very important.

That question is pertinent. In my opinion, it depends on the level of requirement to which the students are submitted. At the undergraduate level, the recommended books are already included in the bibliography of the subjects, in each semester. In graduate school (specialization and masters degree), for example, if you are a committed author of a book, this tends to have a greater attraction. On the other hand, in the best masters and doctorates of my country, articles with high qualis are the most sought by the students.

Yes, as you found and I think also that the majority of postgraduate students are interested to read the academic books, not the Journal's articles. Generally, the impact or influence of academic book on university students is more than the impact of journal articles. On the other hand, the specialized postgraduate students begin to look for and read the specialized articles when they begin their reseach works.

It not only depends on the level of study, but also on the context one is studying at. Undergraduates may prefer books to articles while postgraduates, especially PhD students will use more articles than books (or combine both depending on the discipline). On the contextual level, students in some developing countries without access to articles will be more used to books than articles, unlike their counterparts in countries with easy access to journal articles. .  

i thank that the academic book is more influence the student, because of many things one of them is more organized and reviewed by many before published.

I think academic article can have fast impact on students because it is short and easy to understand and very conscious. And give you very clear practical answer if he need to know methods or results.

I agree with you but as far as concern with interest , really  i feel it depends on creativity , level of knowledge and willpower to do some thing innovative .  Articles provide knowledge but also spread the awareness about what actually happening now  around the world.  Up to post graduation level both books as well as articles have equal importance, students just have to create a bridge b/w books & recent articles for a better outcome .

In my opinion, so far students' reading habits are concerned, book-reading as opposed to journal article reading, requires a amenable environment that is also steady. Attention-span is likely affected otherwise and most then would gravitate toward journal articles.

Hi Prof Chua, think it depends on the students' objectives - if they want to gain the generic / basic understanding on certain concepts / functions etc., they might refer to book in which its presentation & content can be user friendly & easier to understand.  Even though some books do include some sample articles, but their key objective is to empower basic understanding & for future reference.

For students who are doing their research works, they might need to refer to journal articles for the different purposes i.e. more than the basic understanding of concepts / functions etc.  For examples, they might looking for research gaps (from the section of research limitation / future recommendation), they might looking for certain conceptual frameworks / research models that they want to emulate / enhance, they might want to adopt / adapt certain methodology e.g. survey questionnaire etc., they might looking for the better way / format to write their research article etc.
