My students and I are running a few experiments examining the cognitive effects of being relaxed. However, the relaxation achieved in our protocols has been pretty variable and less than hoped. Ideally I would be able to get people relaxed in a 20-30 minute time window. One other point, part of my interest in the topic has to do with separating relaxation from mindfulness and other potentially meditative manipulations; this is a confound not usually addressed in those studies. So ideally no meditation is needed to get relaxed or I will be going strictly in circles.
