There should be no priority but harmony, balance, all these are importante for those who intend to develop a good work.

I agree with Vilemar, a harmony and balance among all the three are important. However, I shall place Motivation at the top. If someone is highly motivated, he/she can very well conquer all the obstacles and limitations.   

The priority is --- first intelligence, then motivation, and latest/modern sophisticated instrument.

Over and above, the balance and harmony between these there is very essential.

Intelligence is part and parcel of scientific domain, although without proper motivation it does not work properly. An intelligent person surely needs the modern sophisticated instruments in order to get more accurate result in scientific experiments.

I think the intelligence is in the high priority and then motivation in the second level. Since the intelligence and motivation are able to find sophisticated instrument.

All the three have the most and almost equal importance. Motivation and intelligence have a slight edge over the modern sophisticated equipment.

It is very difficult to put a priority or precedence class for the items in comparison as they are integral components of scientific endeavours. Motivation and intelligence are vital to create scientific instruments that are of high sophistications and power and these instruments at the same time enable us to investigate further deep in to the unknowns to get new results, which indicates the reversible nature of their precedence.

The Hubble space telescope is one example created by ingenuity of the human mind but at the same time the very instrument  opens the universe to us for more new discoveries and new theories to be developed, i.e. it becomes a source of scientific discoveries.   

Being motivated could be of greater importance than intelligence when it comes to scientific, technological or academic endeavour and accomplishment. Motivation beats raw intelligence almost every time - Jonathan Wai, Duke University.

It is a very interesting  question. We have been developing scientific theories, ideologies and experimental methodologies to test those theories and ideologies. Now we are conquering outer space and confronted climatic change and global warming. I have a question to ask. Do we have acceptable scientific domain? I feel we do not have such a domain. The way we negotiate with the nature is totally different from other living beings in this planet. Therefore, we talk about ecological foot prints, carbon foot prints, water foot prints and many more foot prints yet to come. This is mainly due to drastic incompatibilities of sharing and utilizing ecosystem services compared to other living beings. First we must define human habitat and we need to know our environmental limits and the ways and means to access ecosystem services to survive in this planet. Then motivation and intelligence will help to re define the scientific domain. This will happen in future.

If we are motivated we can learn things more easely and then have better results. 

But we should be intelligent , having the ability to adapt our knowledge to new situations.

Sometimes it is important to introduce sophisticated instruments in the scientific domain...

Researchers are always, by definition, highly motivated. The main dowries of a researcher are: intuition, imagination, perseverance, intellectual unscrupulousness and a pinch of intelligence.

The most sophisticated and powerful tools to do research were and are the financial resources.

Motivation is comparatively more powerful tool.

My first comment maily was on the importance of both intelligence and products created to promote science and how they are inseparable in science discourse. But as sequencing of actions, of course intelligence and motivations are precursors for creativity which appears in latter in the sequence. 

But I am not sure whether our intelligence controls everything as we do not know everything, only few portion of things in nature/universe are known so far and our understanding and  knowledge of things that we know is still not solid.

I think intelligence does figure in producing good research as some research topics are more difficult than others, so we can have a variety in the level of research published.

If one is motivated and have intelligence, you can manage modern sophisticated instruments, labs, other material necessary for research.

Most of the earlier scientific discoveries were accomplished by motivated minds with passion, perseverance, dedication for their goal.  Greatest scientists like Archimedes, Galileo, Newton, Einstein, J.C. Bose, C.V. Raman made great discoveries with limited prior knowledge, scientific tools.
