I know people, who find retirement stressful; one of my former supervisors told me that now his wife tries to control him all day; he always does the daily shopping to relax.

The two are stressful. In school, one is building a career and it is very stressful, especially during examination. It required endurance, perseverance and the need to be focus.
Working is the joy of building a successful career. But, the joy can be short-lived due to the circumstances inherent in work place. The stress that such situation generates could lead to health challenges or at the extreme death if not well manage. Managing the unnecessary of struggles, hatred , jealousy, backbiting, nepotism among other issues in the work place could be more stressful. Only God could see one through.
It can be either depending on attitude. Personally, I derived joy out of my school years and do the same with my work. Amir

It is always stressful when we are looking for material benefits. At School, students who enjoy learning are usually happy. Students who are looking for grades and success are always under stress. if we have the job we love, we even enjoy hard work. If we just looking for job because of high salaries, we will be under stress not doing what we love. Finally, it all depends on us....
I think it depends, right now my schooling is more stressful, and that has more to do with power politics at my faculty and department, than it does the actual academic work. Which is sad in an environment for either work or school, its not the actual job that is difficult or stressful but the people you are surrounded by. That really lowers morale in alot of places.
What controls stress is one's attitude towards all undertakings.
I realized late that schooling was stressful - had to excel over others.
At university too many personal conflicts. Better to work by yourself and you can control the stress factor and minimized it.

At early age schooling is stressful
