What is your experience about a more effective aid to teaching university students. Some people believe that PPTs help promote focus and coherence of thoughts of the teacher, others feel that the use of blackboard draws better attention of the audience. Of course, we presume that other things are the same in both cases e.g.competence of the teacher/facilitator, relevance of the contents, infrastructure, and motivation level of the students, etc.
My experience is that overuse of PPTs is not appreciated by the audience. And, it is more attentive when I extempore or use blackboard, but I am more confident and satisfied in my delivery when I use PPTs.
I think that we can use power point and blackboard in an balanced way.

It was effective. I used give power point in advance and in class explain and had discussio. Student liked and enjoyed learning.
A rational balance involving the use of PPT and the blackboard with deliberate organization and delivery of rich content is second to none!
PPTs are a good aid when we need complex models or diagrams. I use it to display the models or main points that I am discussing.It also helps supplement the readings that have been given in advance.
The blackboard is used with the PPT for explaining what is there on the PPT through points, drawing, sketches and also in healthy peer-learning activities.
I agree with Saini Sir that over-use of the PPT is not appreciated by the student audience. And in the courses that I teach, I handover some sessions to them. Peer-led sessions often give birth to interesting ways of using the blackboard and the traditional use of the PPT.

The tools are secondary, I prefer the Adobe connect for universities levels.

I think both are important and essential in teaching.
PPT should not be same ,every time add new slides, make ppt limited not for full lecture, blackboard for explaination , and add question answer also discussion on topic including case study ,real life problem, self experience,and be sure that class will not go to boring mode,always refresh
For effective teaching both can be used. For complex diagram ,tables and figures PPT is very effective.

Board use is always better in MBA classes, as disucssion is the main theme of the MBA classes. I use the board for the MBA case based classes and it always help.

Ceteris paribus, PowerPoint strengths include you can pre-prepared, animation & more structured presentation & ease of distribution e.g. save in pdf then mail out etc. Whereas the strengths of blackboard / whiteboard is you can draw in free hand (for new impromptu ideas) while explaining to students. Even though the lecturer can use PowerPoint to draw impromptu ideas, but s/he must have lots of practice to master.
In any discipline teacher while going through the curriculum in the beginning should divide it which part of the unit could be best dealt with PpT. Secondly teachers should be very careful while using P PT should not present slides with heavy text, proper explanation of every slide requires use of other strategies and skills where one may have to use the blackboard . It is suggested that combination of both is required .In addition to it for MBA students more practical is needed to apply theoretical knosledge into practice.
I am an old school thinker. I believe black board teaching is best. For complex topics, notes could be provided and then discussed in class. When a student writes in his/her copy, all sensory organs gets activated.
While using Powerpoints and teaching boards as tools for teaching in a MBA class, it's more effective in pointing out a business management theory for in-depth learning by providing a challenge session or case samples as a group that let the learners arrive at a conclusion that either supports or seeks for improvement of the theory being tested in the reality of the social cultural environment.
As a MBA student, use of both is much more effective than the use of any one type at a time. While using PPTs faculties can go around the classroom connecting with each and every student, thus getting attention of the students as needed, but also using the whiteboards for giving spot examples, discussing abstract scenarios, clearing doubts and importantly getting students to focus upon as required.
Power point is more preferable attached with external document camera.
A blend of teaching methodology is required. Not only PPT or chalk and talk is preferred but one should prefer association of audio-visuals, cases discussion and student engagement activities which helps them to apply the studied concept in practical manner.
Am into academics for last 9 years , taking classes for PG and UG level students,and have felt that board and chalk method works better than PPT. It keeps the students attention intact for a sligyter longer duration and give ample opportunities to students to probe .Though a combination of both is preferable for explaining theories or diagrams
