Many reports describe probiotic or prebiotics supplementation in preterm infants formulas. Is there an evidence based clue regarding safety and efficacy of these supplements for prevention of NEC and improving growth for these infants?
Probiotics are more beneficial because once consumed they exert their beneficial effects directly whereas prebiotics when used would have to take some time to before stimulating the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. From literature probotics have repeatedly mitigated necrotizing enterocolitis both in animals and humans
I agree completely with the answer. Probiotics stimulate the beneficial gut bacteria m. We have some results that were ( a very unusual case) the mother had consumed dietary formulations ( off the counter) for a male child. The formulations which we analyzed have very high steroids, heavy metals, and free fatty acids. Preterm births and congenital malformations were detected in the o child their gut flora was completely wiped out ( beneficial). However, preterm babies started regaining these after being administered with probiotics.
