Considering the total contents of a cell or tissue lysate (of your liking), would the lysate contain more proteins or metabolites? I have an impression it contains more protein than metabolites. Thanks RSG.
If you wanted to compare the numbers of the kinds of proteins and metabolites in a cell, I would say that it contains more kinds of proteins than metabolites in the case of yeast cells. As far as I know, there are about 1000 kinds of metabolites and more than 6000 kinds of gene products in yeast cells.
If you wanted to compare the total numbers of protein molecules and metabolite molecules in a cell, I have no idea about that.
