I do prefer stent

Stent versus no stent is debated by some authors, most prefer stent to the bladder 

we are going for using non-stented repair for distal hypospadias

early fistula formation is an issue, hence many prefare stent

I use formal urinary catheter for 5- 7 days (Toilet trained pt).

Cook Cathater 6-8 Fr for non-toilet trained with double diaper. 

Actually stent should be urethral for 5-7 days and the best type is silicone tube and no need for suprapubic urinary diversion except in hypospadias cripple
