Hi everyone, I need to use GC-MS instrument to analyze phthalates and BPA in microplastics. What grade of solvents should I choose for this? Can GC-grade solvents be used for these measurements or should I work with GC-MS-grade solvents?

It depends mostly on the type of column that you want to use during GC-MS analysis but I suggest you to use GC grade methanol or Acetone.

We are an experienced plasticizers lab and analyze phthalates and BPA in plastics for thirty years. HPLC grade or GC-MS grade might work, but this depends on the subblier, Your question and the detection limits you want to achieve. It is not avoidable to perform tests on every batch of solvent you use in order to perform trace level analyis. And You will need blank samples for all of your batsches.....
