I am in plan to develop sweet corn from our elite germ plasm lines using the sweet corn genes Su1, Su2, Se1, Sh1, Sh2 and bt1, bt2. In this regard which genes combination will be better.
Eg:1. Su1 and Sh2?
2. Just sugarrr/sugary enhensor/shrunken etc?
3.All the responsible genes?
Just use bt1, the combination (e.g. su wx ae) has made poor seed, low germination, etc.

Thank you for your kind reply reply, In one article they have mentioned Su1 and Sh2 will be good for sweet corn and to carry out MAS programme. Just want small clarification bt1, sh1 (brittle and shrunken) genes are related each other?
You may still have poor germination of seed since less plant food in endosperm.
I just have experience in bt1 with sweetness. You may get more information from Professor Brewbaker in Horticulture Department, University of Hawaii.

As it has been mentioned by others, the more you stack the better but at the same time seed quality keeps getting worse.
Ideally, su1 + sh2 and se1, in fact, there are some commercial hybrids here in the US that have this stack and called "synergistic"

The tricky one to work with is se1, if you dont have markers for it you can detect its presence after pollination when the kernels are in dough stage, the se1 kernels have a dull color,
You will need to open the husks and mark them with a Shgarpie marker so you know which ones they are.
Yes Sir, As you spotted it's tricky to work with Se1. I have some markers for it, If they work it will be nice to work with it. Let me try and see the best possible things.
