I am conducting a research project in Bangladesh on chronic kidney disease (CKD). To diagnose CKD, I need to calculate eGFR; however, I am confused which equation should I apply to calculate eGFR in Bangladeshi context. CKD-EPI or MDRD or any others which would be more appropriate with proper justification. Thanks.
CKD-EPI is nearly always better than MDRD - especially if part of your cohort contains patients with normal kidney function. The problem with both equations as I expect you know is that they were developed in cohorts with African Americans and Non-African Americans. This makes using the adjustment for African Americans for other ethnicities problematic. You would need to search the literature to find if anyone has specifically looked at people from Bangledesh.
