It is known that methylated CpG around TSS decreases gene expression.
However, It is difficult to know exactly which CpG has a greater impact on gene expression.
Are there any databases known about which CpGs have a major influence on a specific human gene? OR is there a way to analyze this effect In silico?
Most of the time Methylation spreads like oil along a sequence, especially in dense CpG islands. That's what is so difficult to identify a single CpG dinucleotide that drives the gene silencing. Sometimes, depends on the gene and the model, a CpG contained into a transcription factor binding site (e.g. Sp family or even CREB) may be crucial for the methylation started by Epigenetic Writers.
