Since Markus & Kitiyama's cult paper, cultures are usually defined in terms of independent-dependent dihotomy despite the evidence that both kinds of selves are present among all of us.

Twenty statement test (TST) has been a powerful tool to capture the self construal of people. Reserachers have generally coded TST into two dichotomous self, however, Rees & Nicholson(1994) have coded TST into 4 categoreis. Therefore we are in a fix as which appraoch to use.

We also aim to prime some of the selves such as reflective or oceanic among young Indian adults and see whether the priming has some positive infuence on these two specific selves.
