I want to separate enentiomers (S and R ) of fatty acids which are 7 to 10 carbons long in GC-MS or HPLC (whichever is suitable). Please suggest me a chiral column (either HPLC or GC suitable) which can do the job.
if you want to analyze fatty acids with GC/MS, you have to derivatize them first (e.g. as methyl esters). Underivatized they will hardly evaporate, but rather hang around in the liner and decompose there. One exception is known to me: Sigma Aldrich has a column with which you can analyze free fatty acids in the GC
You may also be able to take a look at this: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/technical-documents/articles/analytical/astec-chiraldex-column-selection.html
thank you Markus Christ . I agree that we have to derivatize them first before GCMS analysis. But then which chiral column would be best for separation of methyl esters of 7-10 carbon long fatty acid?
