Catalytic Technologies are currently in use. The chemical composition of the catalyst varies according to its engine application, environment, fuel burnt in the combustion chamber, and target pollutants.
The single most effective modification of diesel fuel that I have encountered is not an additive - it is the nearly complete removal of sulfur from the fuel. Sulfur removal enables or greatly improves the pollutant abatement of a large number of catalytic exhaust emission controls (DPFs, NH3-SCR, NAC, etc.) that are heavily reliant on the use of Pt-group metals or alkali NOx storage. In the case of base-metal-zeolite SCR, urea or NH3 injection into the exhaust is necessary for NOx reduction, which often exceeds 95% reduction at exhaust temperatures above ~250 C.
YES THIS IS BEING DONE AT REFINERY LEVEL IT SELF BY REDUCING THE SULFUR SPEC OF DIESEL PRODUCED. THE ADDITIVES ARE DEEMED TO BE CAPABLE OF IMPROVING COMBUSTION PROCESS TO BETTER AND EFFICIENT LEVELS THERE BY REDUCE CO, CARBONACEOUS MATTER, NOx.
THERE ARE SEVERAL ADDITIVES LISTED WITH US EPA CLAIMING TO IMPROVE COMBUSTION, LUBRICITY, KEEP IGNITORS CLEAN ETC.
ALL ARE IN THE FORM OF TRADE NAMES - SEVERAL HUNDREDS.
IF THEIR CLAIM IS TRUE , THEN PEOPLE HAVE FOUND CHEMICALS THAT REAL DOES ABOVE.
We found that the use of biodiesel from animal origin (as an additive of diesel) reduce the PAH and nitroPAH emmision, but probably increase the polar compounds.
By adding a fixed amount of hydrogen in CI engines the level of exhaust pollutants goes down. Secondly, up to certain level the exhaust pollutants can be controlled by changing combustion chamber temperature.
ARLA 32 is a reagent that is used in conjunction with the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to chemically reduce the emissions of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases of diesel vehicles. ARLA 32 is a 32.5% solution of high purity urea in demineralized water that is transparent, non-toxic and safe to handle. It is not explosive, nor flammable nor harmful to the environment. The ARLA 32 is classified as a minimum risk category product in the transport of fluids. It is neither a fuel nor a fuel additive and needs to be used in a specific tank on your SCR diesel vehicle. The supply is made in a similar way to diesel. If you pour ARLA 32 into your hands, simply wash them with water.
thanks very much. understand brasil has made it mandatory to use ARLA 32. kindly share if here authentic information to conclude reduction in NOx and particulate matter has been achieved. kindly share any governmental document available to you, such that i can take up with our government to adopt this.
