I am sure there are many ways to cause retinal degeneration. I would try incubation in glutamate at 10-100 micromolar concentrations, depending on how fast you would like to obtain degeneration. Another alternative may be magnesium free extracellular solution, though that may take a little while.
I am dissecting the Retina from goat's eye with all the retinal layers intact and then trying to electrically stimulate it to see the response .Will the given procedures be helpful in causing degeneration in such a retinal specimen ( neither a single cell culture nor an animal model is being used in the experiment here ) ?
