When asking what are the psychological variables, I want to know if there have been investigations on the variables or psychological factors that intervene in the generation and maintenance of social capital and which are those that have been identified?

Your question intrigued me, why would you ask about psychological factors about a sociological phenomenon? The concept of social capital explains it is a relational phenomenon; social capital (only) exists between people, so it cannot (itself) have psychological characteristics.
But of course there are features of social capital such as trust that could also be seen as individualistic. For example an individual who is perceived as trustworthy or reliable is more likely to have more social capital.
What I am proposing is that you rework your question, what personality (or psychological variables) are assocaited with accummulating social capital.
You will note that my suggestion is actually similar to Mary's@ answer. My concern is with inputs; hers is with consequences
There is a conflict in defining social capital between valuing the contacts for their social and economic status versus the communal exchanges among lower income but more caring comrades. It is not so much who you know as what they do for each other.
I appreciate your answers and suggestions. I ask the question because to relate to others, psychological and social aspects are required that are given from the cognitive, social, personality, family, which may have a basis in the way we process information and create schemes, as which makes us feel interpersonal attraction and interest in relating with others and subsequently trusting, even being able to be reciprocal.
Altruism, capacity to interact and cooperate, and to compete over mate which is high in rank and as regards reproduction.

I perceived there is a gap between psychological models (psychological constructs, see some examples Leon Festinger theory[1954]) and the body of knowledge we named "social capital", the good news is about I developed in my PhD thesis a relatively "simple" method to measure and to know which dimensions of "social capital" in a individual and of course the human social group this individual belongs...if you want to know about psychological constructs and work around it, may be the variables to fill this "gap" can be identified. It will allow to create a new body of knowlegde...who knows?
