Hello, I am working on a researh project for detecting ocean surface targets using the full polarimetric L-Band SAR data. Oil spill detection is one of the ocean surface target I am working upon. As oil spill detection is a research interest since decades, there are number of approaches identified like various polarimetric decomposition techniques . I need to know about some of the approaches apart from famous decompositon techniques , which provides promising results in oil spill detection.

Recently, we proposed a new parameter, i.e. OSI, in the following paper, for the detection of oil-spill.

In this paper, the two different form of OSI, which are OSIh and OSIf, are discussed. Wherein, OSIf can be easily derived using full-polarimetric information. This parameter is simple to estimate and performs better than the well known Coh. The performance evaluation has been carried out over ALOS-PALSAR data, which is L-band in nature. This paper might be useful for you work.
