The Asian region accounts for the bulk of total global aquaculture production. Much of the fish produced in the region are of low value. A fraction of the total regional production (mass), however, is of high export value.
It varies from region to region. E.g., In most Central Asian countries the dominant cultured species are: Common carp, Silver and Grass carps. E.g., in Uzbekistan last year about 70% of cultured fish was silver carp. Dominance is determined by low production costs of these species, i.e. by quantity. High value species are also raised: rainbow trout, sturgeons, European wels, however, they are not dominant due to high production costs. In fact, silver carps is also good quality fish for local market if it is sold after 3 year raising technology which allows to produce larger fish (1,5 kg and more).
