It is important to know quantity and quality of effluent, whether various forms of treatment may be needed so it can be disposed, and then disposal options to fit the circumstance and protect the environment and public. Quantity includes the average and max daily disposal need, how much needs to be temporarily stored for treatment or during periods when disposal may not be possible, such as soils too wet, or streams too low to properly dilute to acceptable level. I do not know regulations for India, but would assume there are some. It is important as a professional to do ample fieldwork and understand regulations and permitting process, to make responsible recommendations. Some countries require a certified individual such as civil engineer to review and certify plans, and sometimes with required monitoring and reporting of discharges.

I think it is related with the discharging area i.e., where the waste water will be discharged. In Bangladesh DoE has fixed permissible limit for different parameters in sewage canal, surface water etc. You can see the limits by searching as "ECR(Environmental Conservation Rules) 1997".
Disposal of wastewater and its level of treatment is dependent on the final discharge disposal area (river, ocean outfall, irrigation reuse, percolation ponds, wetlands, etc.). The level of treatment is mandated by environmental laws by the government - certain areas may have more stringent or less stringent requirements. Industrial wastewaters will require higher degrees of pretreatment to remove toxic chemicals, oils, grease, solids, etc. The common treated wastewater discharge parameters are usually BOD5:TSS:TN:TP like from 20:20:5:1 to 5:5:3:1 mg/l or variations along with disinfection residual of at least .5 mg/l total/fecal coliform less than 200 to 0. At minimum, if a country has no rules, then follow WHO or another country's (USEPA) effluent discharge standards.
Usually in fruit and vegetable processing plants, similar wastewater treatment processes for domestic wastewater treatment processes are used and the treated effluent is mostly reused thus reducing water use and in cases zero discharge. In well run fruit and vegetable facilities find ways to recover and make other products from wastes generated.
There is a need to analyse the quality of sewage produced. On the basis of quality treatment can be conducted.In majority cases the wastewater produced will be Oxygen Demanding wastes. so ODW treatment must be recommended
