I'm going to look at gender roles in a few novels from a sociolinguistic standpoint. What approaches do you recommend to analyze such roles?

Regarding Gender identity is the symbol of masculine and feminine categories. The society is giving this identify to everyone that they can lead the group or institution or organisation where they have been positioned to decide the power of sanctions.

As I understand that there are six main theoretical approaches include: “(1) the welfare approach; (2) women in development (WID); (3) women and development (WAD); (4) gender and development (GAD); (5) the effectiveness approach (EA); and (6) mainstream gender equality (MGE). You can opt as per you study perspectives.
Consider different gender analytical frameworks like Harvard analytical framework, social relations, Moser, Vulnerability and capacity analysis framework, women empowerment/Longwe framework and some others. While opting for a single analytical framework is not advisable, combining two or more are recommended by scholars of gender and development. For the general approach, it is wisdom to opt for gender and development since it is better compared to WID, and WAD. Consider your analytical perspective and mix two or more gender analytical frameworks which may fit well to your context.
Use discourse analysis of GENDER identify and roles and roles as portrayed in selection of novels
You can apply Judith Butler’s notion of ‘gender performativity’ to analyze the roles assigned to both the genders in the selected novels, with a focus on how writers construct gender identity through language.
