I am having trouble locating the names of British and American merchant houses that operated in Yokohama after it became a treaty port under the British and American treaties with the Shogunate. I have spent a considerable time but am only managing to find one name here and another there. If anyone has such a complete list of names, I would appreciate a copy of it which I can use in my article. It will be duly acknowledged. Thanks
I know nothing about this question; so my suggestions may be completely out of context. However, I would suggest you to check local newspapers (in English) which probably mention the names of these merchant houses (incl. advertising); second, the archives of the chamber(s) of commerce: the membership of these chambers of commerce should provide most of the names you are looking for. Of course, these would request lots of work, so it depends what you would like to do with these names.
