gel purification will always work in purifying away the pcr primers but is more time consuming and less efficient if you are running a large number of samples. Exo sap is excellent and quick but there is a group of primers that are resistant to exonuclease treatment so if one of your pcr primers is not degraded then you will be sequencing with 2 primers present so very occasionally sequencing can be poor
