Aqua sowing is nothing but the sowing of the seed with required quantity of water. It may be beneficial for moisture conservation under dry land crops but depends on the other environmental factors.
Dr. Tarafdar thank you very much and could you please explain required quantity of water. whether for seed soaking or sowing with irrigation. kindly elaborate
It is actually the artificial drilling of water in the vicinity of the seed zone in rainfed rabi crops for achieving optimum plant population and plant vigor. In India under limited moisture condition aqua sowing of wheat, chickpea and mustard crop with 15000-20000 litre water/hectare enhance the productivity of these crops and yield increase ranges between 20-25% with aqua sowing technology. This technology has generally good impact under dry-land conditions as it is ecofriendly has easy social acceptance.
You inquired very pertaining question about aqua sowing. it is nothing but pouring water on seeds at the time of sowing resulting hampering germination of seed under mositure stress condition .therefore, seed will take less time in germination and vigor.
Thank you Dr. Meena now its clear. I think it is the modified form of seed hardening, but in aqua sowing, seed is binds with soil and water and hence germination will be faster right.
