I want to make viable count for the resistance colonies that will generate from environmental swabs when using certain antibiotics! my question is how can i get the MIC for different antibiotics? i searched many times but without benefits!

I work with medical bacteria. We have CLSI as a ref for MIC of known strains called ATCC.
I think for environmental microorganisms you have to isolate them check the MIC and after that make a decision. You need pure colonies.

Hi Wafaa. You can do MICs of resistant colonies by using a 2-fold broth dilution series of your antibiotic (the MIC would be the minimum concentration that gives a clear broth, i.e. that inhibits growth. You can also do the MBC by plating out a standard volume from the tubes that give clear broth. The MBC is the minimum concentration that is bactericidal (not only inhibits but kills bacteria). You can also do MICs with E-test - but not sure if your antibiotic is available for the E-test.

As I remember these tests are well standardised whether done on plates or in broth. The results are read and compared with tables available from Difco or the providers of the antibiotics disks.Reference strains are required for comparison. With thanks
For the MIC and disk difussion, CLSI and EUCAST provides the zone size as well MIC value for the control strains e.i. ATCC or NTCC as well test strains. U can download the EUCAST guideline from their site and find the MIC value for individual antibiotics.

if you procure your antibiotic from a standard brand, the MSDS would provide you with the MIC.
CLSI and EUCAST provide good information about antibiotic values for wide variety of pathogens.
CLSI and EUCAST provide the MIC antibiotic values for gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
