While there is extensive literature that provides an answer to the above question, both types have been known to be associated with neuronal MTs (microtubules); however, only for type II or MAP2/tau it is said that there are exclusively associated with neuronal MTs. So is it that both types are associated with neuronal MTs and type I is commonly associated with all MTs?

as far as I know, mamalian MAP2/tau are exclusively associated with neurons. MAP1 mainly expressed in brain and embryo. Also, low expresseon of MAP1 (isoform 1) was reported for heart and muscle tissues...).
