The error occurs when data is entered into the program incorrectly, the analysis steps are incorrect, and the independent and dependent variables are not specified correctly. You also get unreliable results if the sample size is small.

As well as addressing Rainer Duesing 's answer, you should say if you mean it is an error where the computer reports an error, or whether the computer produces output that is in error for the research question that your sister has.
