I have read several articles. There are several strategy such as Post-synthetic Modification (PSM), Surface Modification, Metal Exchange, Introduction of Linker Defects etc. I noticed that Post-synthetic Modification (PSM), Surface Modification process somehow same. I want to make a standard classification for MOF functionalization process. I need suggestion from the experts in this field. Thanks in advance....
The PSM process can be basically classified into two types. Coordinate modification or covalent modification. Modification that happens on the metal nodes of MOF or coordinate binding of metals post synthetically to linkers comes under coordinate modification. If the linkers of the MOFs are modified such that a covalent bond is formed after PSM it comes under covalent modification. Though the functionalization happens on surface, analyzing which part of MOF gets the modification helps to identify the kind of functionalization.
