I understand increasing stimulation causing stronger EPSP, but sometimes, after certain point, further increasing stimulation only decreases EPSP. What is the mechanism of this?

It is probably due to the specific acceptance and saturation of receiving stimuli in the desired logic.
Maybe when you reach the max of the I/O, it's better to stop increasing the stimulation. At this higher intensity, you may be damaging some fibers instead of recruiting more. Especially, If you see bubbles at the site of your stim. I wouldn't be surprised of the outcome you are describing. You could check this (bubbling) with a camera
Thank you, Fouad Lemtiri-Chlieh , it makes sense. I didn't see any bubbles, but I usually get better results when not reaching I/O maximum
Is not it the explanation of habituation, it requires a scale for EPSP, in low level or high level it looses its skill to create it.
