I faced this problem while doing hypersonic flow analysis over a reentry capsule in ANSYS Fluent. Also residuals are becoming horizontal that solution is not at all getting converged. Could someone help me with this ?
Well, it really depends on your problem, and you should ask yourself: should I get a Mach no. value higher than the free stream?
If not, then it is probably a stability issue, 1st order discretization is more stable than 2nd order.
You should also tell us what are the values of the residuals you are getting? are they higher than 1e-3?
You should consider improving the quality of your grid, and making more refinements in the region where you obtained the high Mach no. value.
Yes, the residuals are higher than 1e-3. I'll try improving the mesh quality and do it again. That might be the problem as you suggested
