i modeled 3 types of soils ( C D E) and analyzed them using 11 different scaled ground motions (0.3 and 0.5g) to find the surface response. in all cases , peak ground accelerations of soils were reduced specially for 0.5g cases. i wanna know that reason. it should be noted that when i change the soil property and use other soils, i see greater PGA in comparison with input motion in some cases. i wanna to know which one of soil properties can change PGA more.

Which structure frequencies did you model for the response analysis? Likely, you looked only at short period structures. Depending on the soil depth, density, and shear wave velocity, it is typically longer period structures which suffer the most damage from earthquakes when the structure is founded on deep soil sites. In the New Madrid seismic zone, for instance, we have soil deposits 1,000 meters and deeper. We find that structures with a period of about 1 second or less experience reduced acceleration levels, while structures having a period of more than about 1 second experience greater accelerations. I will note, however, that this phenomenon is only for elastic accelerations. When you look at inelastic displacements, I think you will typically find increased displacement response across the full spectrum of periods.
