When assessing a patient receiving one or more immunosuppressant

drugs, what specific signs and symptoms indicate

adverse drug effects?

Minor adverse effects may be nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Complicated symptoms are osteoporosis, muscle problem, hyperglycaemia and immune deficiency. Osteoporosis is indicated by unexpected fracture of bones at any part of the body. Muscle contraction is also delayed leading to uncoordinated movements. Since immunosupressants such as corticosteroids act on glucose metabolism, they can increase accumulation of blood sugar. Suppressing an immunity also shows that the body is vulnerable to infections.
