CO2 Sequestration in Depleted Oil Reservoirs
When an oil reservoir (partially) filled with oil (and brine) gets invaded by CO2, whether, only a fraction of CO2 would get displaced?
If so, then, does CO2 begin to form tortuous micro-fingers within the territory of the oil?
Does the formation of these micro-fingers result from ALL of the below mentioned physics?
(a) The randomness of the pore structure; (b) The Interplay between viscous, capillary & gravity forces; (c) The difference in viscosity between injected CO2 & in-situ oil; (d) The formation of wetting films assisted by micro-roughness on the pore-walls.
