🔬 In our recent study titled “Effect of 1% Phenytoin Muco-Adhesive Paste on Improvement of Periodontal Status in Patients with Chronic Periodontitis,” we explored an unconventional therapeutic approach. Rather than its traditional role in neurology, Phenytoin was reformulated into a muco-adhesive paste for targeted application on inflamed gum tissue.
What emerged was a new perspective on an old drug:
🔸 It stimulated fibroblast activity
🔸 Promoted granulation tissue development
🔸 Helped reduce inflammation
This led to gradual healing in chronic periodontal lesions—where physiological distress met a biologically empathetic response.
📌 The findings prompt a deeper question: can systemically known medications be repurposed for localized, patient-friendly therapies?
📊 We’d love to hear your thoughts on formulating adjunct treatments and navigating unconventional therapeutic paths.
