I was in my late 40's, early 50's. I had 2 part time years and 1 whole time year funded by a research training fellowship and then 1 whole time year with funding from quite a few different sources. I feel that by this time in my life, I was able to relax a bit more and maybe felt less stress (although it was still very hard work). And I had marvellous supervision; I could not have managed without it.

If I had not been successful, I had already come quite a long way in my career and this was something that I really wanted to do. I had been interested in research for years and had chosen modules at bachelors and masters level that related to / contained research projects.

I think it depends on the person and on a lot of circumstances besides. But of course, the sooner the better. The pressure imposed is always considerable.

I also think the time spent depends on the person and circumstances. My 4th year allowed me to make additions to my thesis as recommended in my viva. I could maybe have managed to carry this out in a shorter amount of time, but having the year gave me the luxury (if that is the right word to use) of being able to do the additions as well as I could possibly hope to. I was not asked to make any further changes when I submitted my thesis after carrying out this work. I had marvellous supervision, also, during my 4th year.

how to manage our time?! that the question i would like to hear an answer for! not just to have a Phd but to have a reel normal life beside, what the strategies for or a good plan for?! how to reduce stress ? how make your mind can be present in the moment of wrighting?! good luck

I think the master degree should be done directly after the BSc. And for the PhD, I think from 30-35, its a great age to do it. However it still depends on people circumstances.

For the number of years, 3.5 - 4 years, I believe it’s sufficient amount of time for finishing the PhD.

It's interesting and more productive that the master degree should be done right after the BSc (around two years). However, for the PHD, if a professional period is possible, it would be interesting a time to do someting different from the academic work. But it will depend on the job market circumstances. The period of four years seems to be sufficient to finish the PhD.

That's true thanks for your thoughts. So, I think that in some cases like here at INPA, some weren't capable of finishing in the 24 months proposed and I think that one of the things that were a delay was the heavy master's subjects charge with too many credits to get and herein with the experiments or whatever the study does. I think that maybe to have better research quality it could be extended to 3 yrs for a master degree and 4-5 years for Ph.D., that's no so bad. But this is my opinion, and it came cause I saw these events happening and some low-quality studies.

Both postgraduate degrees should be completed as early as possible. Normally, masters should be within 8 months to 2 years, while PhD should be within 2 to 3 years. But the student can fulfill the requirements earlier than the stated duration.

Of course Chinaza Godswill Awuchi I think that too but sometimes the problems emerged can difficult a lot.
