The problem of collecting sensitive and personal data by individual social media portals about their users is not that they collect some data only because they also collect categories of data that users do not always know about and are not fully aware of. Most users of social media portals do not know how many categories of data and information about citizens are collected and collected by social media portals. They then use this knowledge for marketing purposes.
WhatsApp has forgotten that users are the real capital of this company. But not respecting users' privacy and more than that threatening people if they don't accept the new conditions is really dangerous.
The best way is to change this application towards better and more secure alternatives (example: bip Messaging)
Creating and using marketing categories to collect and sort Personally Identifiable Information (PII) isn't the only infringement of consumers' privacy and security. In recent years some companies allow under various business agreements (acquisition, partnership, etc.) access to consumers' databases to other companies, that may built their own criteria/categories/ ranks etc.. That is PII usage is being disseminated to and used for the purposes that may not even known, and certainly aren't controlled by consumers, or anybody / any agency on their behalf. All of that is a dramatic loss of privacy and security and quite questionable from every country's set of criminal and civil laws. The awareness of these facts among public in general lags behind due to highly complex technological and legal natures of what's happening. Given a weak level of consumers' cyber crime protection, the present situation seems rather dangerous.
Jaafar Idrais I am sure they are pretty aware of the consequences of their actions. I hope we don't wake up one day to the news that they've purchased the likes of telegram and BiP messaging. Lol
